Our Miracle Kitten Ripley

Finders Day, summer of 2011, Camp Ripley.

Mew, mew, mew....I watched as a tiny kitten jumped out of a tree and scrambled right up into my son’s arms.  Ian exclaimed in one breath, “Mom, mom...it’s a miracle. You said some day we’d find a little kitten on the side of a road....can we keep her?”

It’s true! 4 months previous to us finding Ripley, our boys were asking if we could get a kitten. We already had 2 dogs, recent rescues, a 2 year old golden retriever, and a 4 month old border collie mix, and also a betta fish. I told our boys that although I loved kittens and cats, and that someday we could get a kitten, that I wasn't quite ready to take on the mess and maintenance involved with a litter box.

Our 2 previous cats had been with us for 18 years, and although I missed them greatly, I wasn't missing the smell and mess of a litter box.  Not ready to commit, I told them that some day we would find a little kitten on the side of the road, and that it would need a home, and then maybe we could get a kitten.
